Portobello West = Good Times

April 28, 2009

I'd like to thank everyone who made it out to see Project Industries at Portobello West this past Sunday, April 26.  I had a great deal of fun chatting you all up as you came by.  I have a heartfelt extra special thank you* for those of you who supported Project Industries by going home with some sweet deals.

Now, some of you know I used to manage a shop called You And Whose Army for a bit there.  I also used to sell jewelry on Granville and Robson streets back in the mid 90s.  Skull rings were huuuuuge back then, remember?  Oh, and let's not forget my stint working for Pantorama in Ontario back when I was a teen, rocking Clearasil and stupid looking pleated pants all the time.  Yes I said fucking Pantorama and yes I said pleated fucking pants.
Gross.  Soooo gross.
We allllllll have our demons people so stop looking at me like that.

Anyway, what's my point?

It's this... What a learning experience this project is turning out to be!  Even though I am no stranger to retail, I'm certainly new to all the aspects of merchandising and marketing and the like.  The most important thing I learned coming out of Portobello West was that I need a full booth.  None of this sharing shit.  I mean yeah, it's a community and sharing is really, really good, but I need more space!

So on Sunday, May 31 look for Project Industries in its very own booth at the next Portobello West Fashion + Art Market.

I'm thinking maybe a store in the next few years...hmmm.

* This is the kind of thanks R&B stars usually reserve for their god when giving acceptance speeches, so you
know I mean that shit.

Nice smirk goof.  Seriously man, you couldn't have mustered up a genuine smile?  What, no, nice Run DMC hat loser.  Keeping it real with the Adidas is the only thing keeping this guy from being a complete douchenozzle.

PS: It's me in in the pic, just in case some of you don't know that and think I'm totally bagging on one of my customers.

Since I obviously dislike that picture, I'm posting this one to make me feel better.  Oh and I hope you like it too.  It's got useful information if you're considering getting your Zamfir on like I was a few years ago until a friend of mine sent this to me...

Caution: Samurai Ahead

April 23, 2009

For a while there it didn't look like Project 002: Samurai was going to make it to its own debut!  However, thanks to some string pulling by some great vendors, not only is this next line (as well as Project 003: Caps) going to be available at the Portobello West Fashion + Art Market this Sunday, April 26th, but I finished receiving all the gear today.  That basically means I don't have to stay up super late on Saturday merchandising, and it very likely means I won't require any crystal meth to stay awake through the market itself.  How fucking awesome is that?

And yeah, I already have my Hoodai on and have claimed my Blakurai tee.  Natch.

Project 002: Samurai is a limited run of 120 pieces that is comprised of 3 different designs.  There are two t-shirt designs (Tanurai and Blakurai) and a hoodie design (Hoodai).  Have a look at the illustrations of each of them or take a look at the Facebook photo album to see some photos I cranked out quickly this evening.  The official photoshoot is booked for early May and the goal is to get this line and Project 003: Caps into the online store by mid May.

I should tell you folks that Project 002: Samurai is nowhere near as large a limited run as was Project 001: The Vans.  The first line had 400pcs and Samurai has 120pcs.  This means where there were 50 of each design for men and women in Project 001, Project 002 contains only 20 of each design for men and 20 for women. This also means each size within a design is limited.  The sizing breakdown is as follows for each of the 3 designs:
Women - 6S, 7M, 5L, 2XL
Mens - 3S, 7M, 7L, 3XL

If you want to ensure you get your size prior to the addition of the line to the online store, email me and I'll set it aside at the Portobello West show.  If you're not able to make the market, you'll have a week to make pick up/shipping arrangements before the item(s) are added back into the available inventory.

Project 003: Caps is also being released this Sunday.  This line of black castro/military style caps will have the Project Industries logo embroidered on one side.  It will not be a limited edition line.  I'll keep making these as long as there is a demand.  Look for more caps coming in the future!

IMPORTANT PROMO INFORMATION FOR FACEBOOK FANS

Go on over to the Facebook Fan Page to find the promo phrase (it's in the Notes).  All you have to do is come by the Project Industries booth at Portobello West, say the phrase and I'll take 10% off the purchase of one item and 15% off the purchase of two or more items.

See you on Sunday!
Jamie

Hoodai.

Project 003: Caps
Available in two sizes: S/M and L/XL
The hat looks ultra tiny here but it's one of the larger size ones and it's appearing that way due to the angle of the rushed webcam pic.

Hats Much?

April 3, 2009

*Updated 04.19.09*

So how many of you dig putting lids on your lid?
I'm tossing around the idea of producing headgear for spring/summer and tuques (knitted caps for you non-Canadian projectors out there) for fall/winter.

Do you like hats like I like hats?  Tell me what you think of this idea?  Tell me what other accessories you'd be interested in seeing as well!

Looking for Clues,*
Jamie

* RIP Robert Palmer

04.19.09 UPDATE
(because I'm too tired to create a separate entry right now)

Thanks for your emails and discussion forum feedback folks.  Apparently hats are a good call so come by the Project Industries booth at the Portobello West show on April 26th to get a look at Project 003: Caps.  They will be "castro" style with a shorter peak and there are two sizes, S/M and L/XL.  I'm producing a limited run of 20 at first; 10 of each size.  However Project 003: Caps will not be a limited edition run like the hoodies and tees.  I'll be ordering these on a regular basis.

Soooo, get a Project Industries cap... insure your lid against bird shit and look good doing it.

Jamie at "the office."  Jamie likes hats.  No.  That's not true.  Jamie loves hats.

Launch date announcement.
Project 002: Samurai. Sweet

April 2, 2009

Recently I said that the wait was sort of over for the launch of the second Project Industries line.  Well now the wait is even more sort of over. Project Industries is taking part in its first Portobello West Fashion + Art Market this month.  I figured this would be as good a time as any to launch the second line so this is your...

FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Project 002: Samurai
will be available for purchase at the Project Industries booth at Portobello West on Sunday, April 26th, 2009.

To find out more, visit the Portobello West Fashion + Art Market website.  Don't judge the event on the look of its website though.  Trust me, my other company is a web design outfit, so I know a bad site when I see one (sorry Carli and Steph!), but it's full of information about the event and participants.

This is no "farmy" craft fair or ghetto yard sale people.  You won't find walls of used power tools or things made with popsicle sticks.  This event is full of talented people producing quality items.  Everyone I've met at these events is very personable and genuinely glad they're a part of the event. The location is super nice as well.  It takes place at the Rocky Mountaineer Station.   Here's an exterior shot showing the height of the venue and the huge windows, which allow for a really bright atmosphere.

Admission is a paltry $2 so why not come on down and say hi, support a thriving local scene and try some seriously good brie marinated in this amazing sauce, the name of which I forget -- but it's really fucking good.  I'm serious.  I wanted more samples but had to move on when I became conscious of the fact that I was just standing there staring and drooling like a hungry orphan.

I'm also going to announce a promo code closer to the date of the market.  If you come by and tell me the promo code, I'll give you 15% off your purchase.

Hope to see you there, and stay tuned for updates on Project 002: Samurai.

Sayonara,
Jamie

PS: I'm still looking to share music influences with my fellow projectors.  Head on into the discussion forum on Facebook and keep me updated on what moves you.  I'm digging me some Tipper right now.  You?

Since you can already see the illustrations for Project 002: Samurai, here's something else to look at.  Enjoy!
